"I had dentures for 35 years. We went to the state fair this year and I had taffy and a candy apple for the first time! I forget that they’re there (my new teeth). Examples of Denture Problems and their Solutions:

 

Problem #1: An “aging“ face, with lines around the mouth, exaggerated creases at the corners of the mouth, saggy-looking cheeks and a deeper crease between the lower lip and the chin.

Solution: A Cosmetic Denture...How does it improve the aging face? It re-establishes the cheek and lip support that has been lost. Also, it "opens up" the bite to increase the vertical height that has been lost because of the wearing down of the chewing surfaces on the dentures (the back teeth now are flat because of the wear) and the loss of bone underneath the dentures. Cosmetic Dentures are first made up in wax, allowing you a chance to try them in. At this "try-in" we can change the tooth size, whiteness or tooth position, make the denture longer, fuller, wider or smaller, to give you that "special personalized look" and to correct whatever facial support has been lost. Problem #2: Poor bony support or ridge underneath your upper or lower denture. Does your denture float around when you talk, eat or laugh? Do you have trouble eating the "crunchy" foods you love?

Solution: Implant Supported Permanent Teeth Implants are utilized to permanently and solidly anchor your denture or partial so that it doesn’t move and doesn’t get food under it. Problem #3: You've had dentures for MANY years and there isn't much bone left. Many of these patients say they can chew better without their lower denture than with it in their mouth. Limited diet, sore mouth, the list goes on and on...Many patients we see have actually been told they can't have regular implants.

Solution: Mini-Implants: These small dimension implants can be placed in areas of great bone loss that regular implants can't. "Mini's" can be placed in as little as 3-4 mm of width of bone. They are also a lesser expensive way to solve your denture problems. We've also used these mini's to stabilize a partial denture that won't "Stay Down". Problem #4: Loose or Painful Teeth past the point where they can be saved

Solution: Immediate Dentures What is an immediate denture? Immediate dentures are for patients whose teeth may have become loose or painful and are past the point where they can be saved due to tooth decay or periodontal disease. Removing your teeth and replacing them with a denture may be the best way to avoid infection and restore health to your mouth. An immediate denture is fabricated in advance and placed in your mouth the same day as your extractions. Once your mouth has healed the immediate denture is relined and adjusted to fit your mouth. An advantage of immediate dentures is that the wearer does not have to be without teeth during the healing period. However, bones and gums can shrink over time, especially during the period of healing in the first six months after the removal of teeth. When gums shrink, immediate dentures may require rebasing or relining to fit properly. Don't cover up your smile!!!
